“Women get out of this kitchen, come and take your place”: interfaces between popular education and a new way of being a woman in the basic ecclesial communities of Pernambuco

Resumo: The Catholic Church is an institution with little participation of women in decisions and exercise of power. Therefore, we are interested in presenting the ways, conditions and formative instances through which women in the Basic Ecclesial Communities have built their trajectories of empowerment, with a view to enhancing participation, autonomy and equal relations between men and women in the Church and in society. Using the Content Analysis (Bardin, 2009), we find that community participation has triggered emancipation, allowing women to understand themselves as active agents of (self)liberation, widening the rift of patriarchy.

Por lo tanto, nos interesa presentar las formas, condiciones e instancias formativas a través de las cuales las mujeres de las Comunidades Eclesiales de Base han construido sus trayectorias de empoderamiento, con el fin de mejorar la participación, la autonomía y las relaciones de igualdad entre hombres y mujeres en la Iglesia y en la sociedad. Utilizando el análisis de contenido (Bardin, 2009), encontramos que la participación comunitaria ha desencadenado la emancipación, permitiendo a las mujeres entenderse a sí mismas como agentes activos de (auto)liberación, ampliando la brecha del patriarcado.A Igreja Católica é uma instituição com pouca participação de mulheres nas decisões e no exercício de poder. Por isso, interessou-nos apresentar as formas, as condições e as instâncias formativas por meio das quais as mulheres das Comunidades Eclesiais de Base construíram suas trajetórias de empoderamento, com vistas a potencializar a participação, a autonomia e as relações de igualdade entre homens e mulheres na Igreja e na Sociedade.
