Reading profile in psychology students of a higher education intitution in Minas Gerais

Resumo: The objective was to know the profile of students of the Psychology course of a Higher Education Institution in Minas Gerais with reading difficulties. Interviews were conducted with 43 students. Content analysis was used. The most cited reading difficulties were interpretation and concentration. It was found that the motivation of reading is directed to academic life. The participants in this study, who declared themselves to have reading difficulties, have a profile similar to that found in other studies. It concludes by reaffirming the importance of knowing the profile of university students about their reading process. The role of higher education in promoting student reading quality is emphasized.

Se realizaron entrevistas con 43 estudiantes. Se utilizó análisis de contenido. Las dificultades de lectura más citadas fueron la interpretación y la concentración. Se encontró que la motivación de la lectura está dirigida a la vida académica. Los participantes de este estudio, que declararon tener dificultades de lectura, tienen un perfil similar al encontrado en otros estudios. Se concluye reafirmando la importancia de conocer el perfil de los universitarios sobre su proceso lector. Se enfatiza el papel de la educación superior en la promoción de la calidad de lectura de los estudiantes.Objetivou-se conhecer o perfil dos estudantes do curso de Psicologia de uma Instituição de Ensino Superior de Minas Gerais com dificuldade leitora. Realizou-se entrevistas com 43 estudantes. Utilizou-se a análise de conteúdo. As dificuldades de leitura mais citadas foram interpretação e concentração. Constatou-se que a motivação da leitura está direcionada para vida acadêmica. Os participantes deste estudo, que se autodeclararam ter dificuldade leitora, possuem perfil semelhante ao encontrado em outras pesquisas. Conclui-se reafirmando a importância de conhecer o perfil dos estudantes universitários sobre seu processo de leitura.
