RESUMOEste estudo descreve a trajetória do Museu do Imigrante Italiano Eduardo Marcuzzo (MIEM), considerando o contexto da imigração italiana na Quarta Colônia, mais precisamente no distrito de Vale Vêneto, localizado no município de São João do Polêsine, no centro do estado do Rio Grande do Sul (RS). Para entendimento das especificidades do grupo de italianos que ali aportaram, usou-se a metodologia de revisão bibliográfica baseada em livros, periódicos, dissertações de mestrado e teses de doutorado que abordam as diferentes facetas da imigração italiana e de assuntos relevantes, tais como patrimônio cultural, memória, identidade e museu. A partir disso, justifica-se a importância deste estudo como conscientização das especificidades do processo de imigração italiana que ocorreu na região central do Rio Grande do Sul, buscando, a partir de um novo olhar, entender as particularidades desse grupo. Outro aspecto é contribuir para valorizar, através do exercício da análise crítica, os espaços de memória que mantêm uma identidade social, a fim de que novas gerações possam usufruir desse conhecimento, buscando a sua preservação.ABSTRACTThis study describes the trajectory of the Eduardo Marcuzzo Italian Immigrant Museum (MIEM), considering the context of Italian immigration in the Fourth Colony, more precisely in the district of Vale Vêneto, located in the municipality of São João do Polêsine, in the center of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). In order to understand the specificities of this Italian immigrant group who arrived there, it was used the methodology of bibliographical revision based on books, journals, master’s dissertations and doctoral thesis that address different aspects of the italian immigration and relevant subjects, such as cultural heritage, memory, identity and museum. From that, it is justified the importance of this study as an awareness of the specificities of the italian immigration process, which has occurred in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, seeking, from a new perspective, to understand the particularities of this group. Another aspect is to contribute to value, through the exercise of critical analysis, the memory spaces that maintain a social identity, so that new generations can enjoy this knowledge, seeking its preservation.
