RESUMOEste artigo realiza uma historiografia da criação do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Planejamento Urbano e Regional (PROPUR) da Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), no início da década de 1970. O curso, pioneiro no campo do Planejamento Urbano e Regional no país, foi criado em um momento de rearranjo da estrutura de ensino da Faculdade de Arquitetura: período de extinção do seu curso de Urbanismo, continuador da experiência de formação em Urbanismo ocorrida no Instituto de Belas Artes do Rio Grande do Sul (1947-1948); e de incorporação de disciplinas do curso extinto ao curso de graduação em Arquitetura e Urbanismo. Para elaboração deste trabalho foi realizada pesquisa documental nos arquivos da Faculdade de Arquitetura da UFRGS. O corpus da investigação contempla registros institucionais contendo o processo de criação do PROPUR e sua estrutura de ensino. Foram consultados: Atas departamentais e de reuniões colegiadas; Relatórios de atividades anuais e semestrais do Departamento de Urbanismo; Cartas, ofícios e/ou circulares com comunicações sobre o programa; O Projeto do curso de mestrado. Estes documentos tornaram possível reconstruir, a partir de um olhar do presente, a realidade passada. O artigo apresenta o contexto de criação do PROPUR; o início do funcionamento do programa; seu processo de reconhecimento legal; o projeto pedagógico do curso.ABSTRACTThis article presents a historiography of the creation of the Postgraduate Program in Urban and Regional Planning (PROPUR) of the Faculty of Architecture of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), in the early 1970s. The course, pioneer in Urban and Regional Planning field in the country, was created at a moment of educational structure rearrangement in Faculty of Architecture: period of extinction of its Urbanism course, continuator of the experience of formation in Urbanism occurred in the Institute of Fine Arts of Rio Grande do Sul (1947-1948); and incorporation of courses subjects from the extinct course to the undergraduate course in Architecture and Urbanism. For the preparation of this work, a documentary research was carried out in the Archives of the Faculty of Architecture of UFRGS. The corpus of the research contemplates institutional records containing the process of creation of PROPUR and its teaching structure. Were consulted: Departmental and collegiate meetings; Reports of annual and semi-annual activities of the Department of Urbanism; Letters, letters and/or circulars with communications about the program; The Project of the master's course. These documents made it possible to reconstruct, from a look of the present, the past reality. The article presents the context of creation of PROPUR; the start of program operation; its legal recognition process; the pedagogical project of the course.
