RESUMOA trajetória da preservação do patrimônio cultural edificado relacionado às imigrações alemã e italiana, no Rio Grande do Sul, reflete diversas fases das políticas públicas relacionadas ao tema, e permite identificar as motivações e dos agentes envolvidos nos processos de tombamento em nível federal. As escolhas recaíram, no início, sobre edificações isoladas e, posteriormente, sobre conjuntos urbanos. Os bens tombados não representam uma transposição de padrões arquitetônicos dos países de origem. Simbolizam a construção de novos lugares em um novo país, implementando novas tipologias, novas técnicas construtivas, novas implantações. As escolhas oficiais nem sempre coincidiram as escolhas locais. No caso da arquitetura popular, as imagens se relacionam, no senso comum, com o enxaimel para a influência alemã e a técnica mista com porão de pedra para a italiana. No caso da arquitetura erudita, são obras encontradas em diversas regiões do estado, extrapolando as regiões tradicionais de imigração. A análise dos bens já protegidos mostra que se deve aprimorar as escolhas em relação às edificações em áreas rurais. E estender a análise para outras correntes imigratórias com vistas a preservar uma diversidade maior das referências de culturas formadoras do país para as futuras gerações.ABSTRACTThe path of preservation of the cultural heritage built by German and Italian immigrants in Rio Grande do Sul allows to identify different phases of public policies, the motivation and agents involved in the processes of landmarking at the federal level. Isolated buildings were chosen first, then urban complexes. The assets landmarked do not represent a transposition of architectural patterns from the countries of origin. They symbolize the construction of new places in a new country and the implementation of new types, new construction techniques, new deployments. Official choices did not always coincide with local choices. In general, the images relate to the half-timbered architecture from Germany and to the mixed technique with stone basement from Italy. Regarding erudite architecture, these works are found in different regions of the state, extrapolating the traditional regions of immigration. The analysis of assets already protected shows that the choices concerning buildings in rural areas should be improved. In addition, the analysis should be extended to other immigrant currents with a view to preserving for future generations a greater diversity of references of the cultures that shaped the country.
