The Perception of the Patient Bearers of Advanced Lung Cancer before Physiotherapy Palliative Care

Resumo: | Introduction: Lung cancer is a highly lethal disease, usually detected in advanced stages. Corresponds to the third highest incidence in males and is the fifth most frequent tumor in females. The treatment depends on the patient’s medical history, his age, general condition, type and stage of the tumor. The physiotherapist holds methods and resources that are immensely useful in the palliative care, and its performance corroborates with the multi-professional treatment. Objective: To describe the perception of patients with advanced lung cancer on physiotherapy palliative care, the patient health status and the main clinical complaints related to the disease. Method: This was a qualitative research on 10 advanced lung cancer individuals admitted to Messejana Dr. Carlos Alberto Gomes Studart Hospital in Fortaleza-Ceará applied with a five-guiding questions questionnaire. Results: data analysis revealed three distinct categories: the sadness and suffering caused by the illness; the limitations and disabilities in daily life and the performance of the physiotherapy in relation to the palliative care. Conclusion: From the patients perceptions, the role of physiotherapy showed to be of great value, with its actions contributing with motivation in a substantial assistance in the treatment of patients with advanced lung cancer. |

Corresponde al tercer tipo de tumor mas incidente entre los varones y entre las mujeres el quinto mas frecuente. El tratamiento depende del historial del paciente, su edad, su salud en general, la etapa y el tipo de tumor. El fisioterapeuta tiene metodos y recursos que son de inmensa utilidad en los cuidados paliativos, y su desempeno ratifica el tratamiento multiprofesional. Objetivo: Describir la percepcion de los pacientes con cancer de pulmon avanzado ante los cuidados paliativos de la fisioterapia, asi como el estado de salud que se encuentra el paciente y la principal queja clinica relacionada con la enfermedad. Método: Se trata de una investigacion cualitativa hecha con personas que tienen cancer pulmonar avanzado que fueron ingresados en el Hospital de Messejana Dr. Carlos Alberto Studart Gomes, en Fortaleza-Ceará. Para ello, se administro un cuestionario de cinco preguntas orientadoras en diez pacientes. Resultados: A partir del analisis de datos, surgieron tres categorias distintas: la tristeza y el sufrimiento causado por la enfermedad, las limitaciones fisicas y las discapacidades en la vida cotidiana; y el papel de la fisioterapia en la atencion paliativa. Conclusión: El importante papel de la terapia fisica resulto ser de gran valor, a partir de las percepciones de los pacientes, su desempeno ha contribuido substancialmente en el tratamiento asistencial de pacientes con cancer de pulmon convirtiendose en motivacional.Introdução: O câncer de pulmão e uma doença altamente letal, geralmente detectado em estágios avançados. Corresponde ao terceiro tipo de tumor mais incidente no sexo masculino e no sexo feminino e o quinto tumor mais frequente. O tratamento depende do histórico do paciente, sua idade, estado geral, estagio e tipo do tumor. O fisioterapeuta detém métodos e recursos que são imensamente uteis nos cuidados paliativos, e sua atuação corrobora o tratamento multiprofissional. Objetivo: Descrever a percepção dos pacientes portadores de neoplasia pulmonar avançada diante dos cuidados paliativos da fisioterapia, bem como o estado de saúde em que o paciente se encontra e a principal queixa clinica relacionada a doença. Método: Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa realizada com pessoas portadoras de neoplasia pulmonar avançada que se encontravam internadas no Hospital de Messejana Dr. Carlos Alberto Studart Gomes, em Fortaleza-Ceara, onde foi aplicado um questionário com cinco questões norteadoras em dez pacientes. Resultados: A partir da análise dos dados, emergiram três categorias distintas: a tristeza e sofrimento ocasionados pela doença; as limitações e incapacidades físicas no cotidiano; e a atuação da fisioterapia em relação aos cuidados paliativos.
