Resumo: Proposing to analyse whether nurses working in Oncological units perceive themselves as prepared to care for the câncerpatient when basedin the Information and skills achieved during the undergraduation nursing course, the present investigation showed that the amount of training regarding that area is quite inadequate. The teaching of Cancerology in Nursing Schools showed to include either inadequate theoreticai and practical contents or else a lacking methodology adopted for that speciaity learning. The study emphasized the need for estabiishing the “Guidelines for Cancerology teaching in the undergraduation nursing courses" within practice, as recommended by the Ministry of Health.

Constataram que a formação recebida pelos enfermeiros que atuam na área de cancerologia deixou a desejar, tanto no aspecto do conteúdo teórico e prático que é ensinado nas escolas quanto na metodologia adotada para o ensino desta especialidade.
