Resumo: In view that incidence in Brazil of male's oral câncer is very high (17,8%) the author did an appreciation on the role of the dentist in the fight against this disease. The role played by this health the professional against câncer was analysed as follows: 1. Participation and aid in instructive popular compaigns; 2. Especific protection; 3. Early diagnosis; 4. Treatment; 5. Rehabilitation. The especific protection and early diagnosis were drawn in this paper. The author's opinion is that brazilian dentists are not properly educated for the prevention and diagnosis of oral câncer.

O papel do cirurgião-dentista na luta contra o câncer foi dividido em cinco itens; 1. Participação em campanhas populares esclarecedoras; 2. Proteção específica; 3. Diagnóstico precoce; 4. Tratamento; 5. Reabilitação. A proteção específica e o diagnóstico precoce das lesões mereceram destaque neste estudo.
