Resumo: Smoking is recognized as a chronic disease caused by dependence on nicotine present in tobacco products. and is linked to a number of tobacco related diseases. In addition to this, it is considered a pediatric disease. In Brazil, treatment for smoking cessation since 2004 is offered at all levels of complexity by the National Health System (SUS), however the existing protocols internationally used seems to have significant limitations when used in populations like children and adolescents. Nicotine salts have a lower degree of irritation and impact in the throat and mouth caused by nicotine, enabling the use of higher concentrations of nicotine. Synthetic nicotine has shown itself to be more economically viable every day and there are already products on the market that use this form of nicotine, however few studies have been conducted to assess its health impacts. The new forms of nicotine and its synthetic form, associated with products with an attractive design, especially for the youngest, bring considerable technical challenges to health professionals, as effective protocols to treat nicotine dependence arising from these new forms of use are currently unknown.
