The author defines the pathologic concept of advanced carcinoma of the breast and discusses its various forms of treatment. Contraindication of radical operations and a review of the indications for palliative surgery is made. Emphasis is made on the good results of radiotherapy as the sole treatment of isolated mestastasis. Other indication of radiotherapy are also refered. The author calls attention to the importance of considering the patient as a whole and trying to correct ixisting desviations from normal mainly the metabolic derangements caused by the malignancy itself. In regard to the hormonal treatment the A. makes separate comments on additive and supressive forms of therapy and emphasizes the choice of policy accoding to the “sex” of tumour cells as determined by nuclear morphology. A brief discussion is made on presente chemotherapy of advanced breast câncer.
