Resumo: A descriptive epidemiologic study with the aim to identify the coincidences among oral cancer cases diagnosed by the National Program to Early Diagnosis of Oral Cancer and cases reported to the National Cancer Registry during the year 1988. Cases were studied by age, sex and clinical stage in each province and in the whole country. Difíiculties with the integrity of both systems were detected because the frequency of coincidences were very low in all provinces. Very few cases diagnosed by the Program were reported to the National Cancer Registry. The highest percentages are observed in patients of 60 and more age and male sex. Differences in the stage distribution between cases in the Program and reported to the Registry were found due to the staging in the Program is made by dentists.

Se observa que existen dificultades con Ia integridad de ambos sistemas de información, ya que Ias coincidências son sumamente bajas em todas Ia províncias debido a una información no sistemática ai Registro de los pacientes diagnosticados por el Programa. Se reportan los mayores por cientos de casos en el grupo de 60 anos y más y en el sexo masculino.
