Resumo: The authors present an analysis of 190 selected cases of lower lip carcinoma treated in the National Câncer Institute of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) be-tween 1970 and 1978. Statistical survey showed that the tumor was more frequent in white males over fifty years. No difference was obtained when surgical treatment or radiotherapy were compared in early lesions. In advanced lesions, surgical treatment was significantly superior to radiotherapy.

In advanced lesions, surgical treatment was significantly superior to radiotherapy.Os autores apresentam a análise de 190 casos selecionados de câncer do lábio inferior tratados no Instituto Nacional de Câncer - RJ, no período de 1970 a 1978. Dados estatísticos revelam ser este tumor mais freqüente em pacientes do sexo masculino, de raça branca e com idade superior a 50 anos. Aspectos etiológicos e de histopatologia são também discutidos.
