Resumo: Currently, there is an increasing demand for procedures focused on aesthetic rehabilitation and minimally invasive interventions in dental clinical settings. These interventions coexist with restorative procedures, which already hold a notable presence in daily clinical routines. Contrary to the widely held assumption, the success of a restoration is not solely determined by the selection of high-quality resin, but is also contingent upon other criteria of significant relevance. These encompass pre-existing clinical conditions, the operator's skill, the patient's profile, and the materials employed. In this vein, this study aims to present the key factors influencing the longevity of composite resin restorations, as well as to provide guidance to the dentist regarding the importance of correctly adhering to the clinical sequence during the restorative protocol, and ultimately, to elucidate the influence of external factors: the patient's acidic diet, gastric reflux, poor oral hygiene, alcohol consumption, and smoking. To this end, qualitative research was conducted through narrative literature review. Furthermore, regular polishing of the restoration during maintenance visits is essential to preserve its properties and enhance its durability.

Estas intervenciones coexisten con los procedimientos restauradores, que ya tienen una notable presencia en la rutina clínica diaria. Contrariamente a la suposición ampliamente difundida, el éxito de una restauración no está determinado únicamente por la selección de una resina de alta calidad, sino que también está condicionado a otros criterios de relevancia significativa. Estos abarcan las condiciones clínicas preexistentes, la habilidad del operador, el perfil del paciente y los materiales empleados. En este sentido, este estudio tiene como objetivo presentar los principales factores que influyen en la longevidad de las restauraciones en resinas compuestas, así como proporcionar orientaciones al odontólogo sobre la importancia de seguir correctamente la secuencia clínica durante el protocolo restaurador y, finalmente, exponer la influencia de factores externos: la dieta ácida del paciente, los reflujos gástricos, la mala higiene oral, el consumo de alcohol y el tabaquismo. Para ello, se utilizó la investigación cualitativa a través de la revisión narrativa de la literatura. Además, el pulido periódico de la restauración durante las consultas de mantenimiento es esencial para preservar sus propiedades y aumentar su durabilidad.Atualmente, observa-se uma crescente demanda por procedimentos voltados à reabilitação estética e a intervenções de caráter minimamente invasivo nos ambientes clínicos odontológicos. Essas intervenções coexistem com os procedimentos restauradores, que já ostentam uma notável presença na rotina clínica diária. Contrariamente à suposição difundida, o êxito de uma restauração não é determinado unicamente pela seleção de uma resina de alta qualidade, mas também está condicionado a outros critérios de significativa relevância. Estes abarcam as condições clínicas preexistentes, a habilidade do operador, o perfil do paciente e os materiais empregados. Nesse viés, este estudo tem por objetivo apresentar os principais fatores que influenciam na longevidade das restaurações em resinas compostas, bem como buscou- apresentar orientações ao cirurgião-dentista sobre a importância em seguir corretamente a sequência clínica durante o protocolo restaurador e, por fim, apresentar  a influência de fatores externos: a dieta ácida do paciente, refluxos gástricos, má higiene oral, ingestão de álcool e tabagismo. Para tanto utilizou-se da pesquisa qualitativa através da revisão narrativa da literatura.
