THE IMPORTANCE OF IMMUNOTHERAPY AS A NUTRITIONAL INTERVENTION IN THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH LUNG CANCER

Introduction: Lung cancer is the second most common in Brazil, it originates in the cells that line the bronchi or in parts of it, thus developing the disordered growth of cells causing the appearance of a tumor. It is understood that there is an importance in analyzing articles/works with the themes involved. Methodology: The descriptors were listed from the DeCS. They were associated in the databases and needed to have the following inclusion criteria: Articles published in full, articles written in Portuguese or English and published in 2021 and 2022. Objective: The descriptors Lung Carcinoma and Immunotherapy were crossed. and Nutritional Treatment found 14 articles, 9 of which had already been found with the descriptor Lung Carcinoma and Immunotherapy and Nutritional Intervention. Discussion: For decades they have looked for different ways to stimulate the defense cells against cancer, vaccines, transplants, among others have been tested, but unfortunately not all have had the expected success. When studying the article, we saw that several studies reported the low reliability of RECIST in evaluating the response to treatment in different tumors (KO et al., 2021). Because, depending on the stage of the tumor, just improving immunity is not the best option. Therefore, several specialists state that immunotherapy must be accompanied by another treatment, since by itself it may not be enough to estimate the tumor response (KO et al., 2021). Conclusion: Through the results, the effectiveness of the presence of nutritional monitoring is explicit. and a medical team in a hospital environment, including the intensive care of people suffering from different types of cancer, not just lung cancer. However, no articles were found in the results that dealt with the team of nutritionists in a more inclusive way, in a way devaluing the services provided to the treatments.
