NURSING ASSISTANCE IN FRONT OF VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE CITY OF JOÃO PINHEIRO - MG: a case study in a public hospital

This research seeks to understand how nursing care is performed with victims who have suffered from domestic violence. It aims to investigate how health professionals deal with this problem on a daily basis, and whether they are really prepared to assist and identify these victims who suffer or have suffered some type of domestic violence. There are still countless cases of violence against women even with the Maria da Penha Law that protect them from such violence, however many women do not feel safe with this Law or for other reasons do not denounce their aggressors. The nurse must have the necessary knowledge to know how to assist, support and discover from the victim the reasons that lead them to hide and not denounce their aggressor. Providing adequate assistance to victims so that they feel welcomed by someone and protected, will thus give them more confidence to help them out of that situation. This research was carried out in a qualitative modality in a public hospital and in one of the FHS in the city of João Pinheiro-MG, seeking to understand how nursing care is performed for victims who suffer from domestic violence. Interviews were carried out with nurses who work on the site to report their experiences in relation to this subject and whether they are really prepared to meet and face this problem in their workday. The victims who arrive at a clinic do not really say that they have been assaulted, since most of them do not want to make a report, they are afraid to say what really happened, just wanting to be treated. The assistance provided by the nurses is basic, they only welcome the victim, make the complaint and forward it to the social worker, thus leaving an unfinished assistance, providing recurrences of violence.
