Resumo: Umbilical hernia is a condition that occurs when an intracavitary organ or tissue occurs in a failure of the abdominal wall. It is a condition common to newborns with small umbilical defects, which resolve in the first weeks of birth. However, there are cases where the defect remains and needs surgical repair or follow-up. This is a systematic literature review, in which a survey of 177 articles was carried out, of which 12 articles were used. The inclusion criteria were articles dealing with umbilical hernia in children, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. At the beginning of the research, 177 articles were selected that fit the key words, of which 165 (93,2%), were excluded, which did not address umbilical hernias in children. This work reports the anatomy of the abdominal wall, the definition of hernia, the types of hernias, the risk factors for the onset of the pathology, and how the diagnosis of umbilical hernia in children is performed. Furthermore, this article exposes the surgical treatment of umbilical hernia in children, and the criteria used to choose surgical or conservative treatment. Understanding the steps and indications for surgical treatment of infant umbilical hernia is necessary to make the work more effective. Communication and integration between the multidisciplinary team is necessary in order to analyze the child's vulnerabilities and needs, and establish the best follow-up for him.

Scientia GeneralisScientia GeneralisScientia Generalis2022-02-03info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://scientiageneralis.com.br/index.php/SG/article/view/37627363/v3n1a7Scientia Generalis; v. 3 n. 1 (2022); 73-81Scientia Generalis; Vol. 3 No. 1 (2022); 73-81Scientia Generalis; Vol. 3 Núm. 1 (2022); 73-812675-299927363/v3n1reponame:Scientia Generalisinstname:Publicação independenteinstacron:INDEPporhttps://scientiageneralis.com.br/index.php/SG/article/view/376/306Copyright (c) 2022 Debora Gomes Junqueira Vilela Vilela, Andressa Morgenstern Santos, Gabriel Henrique Rower, Marilia Bassani Mendes, Thais Cristine Souza Silva, Wesllen Moura Pireshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessVilela, Debora Gomes Junqueira VilelaMorgenstern Santos, Andressa Henrique Rower, GabrielBassani Mendes, MaríliaCristine Souza Silva, ThaisMoura Pires, Wesllen2023-08-01T03:32:14Zoai:ojs2.scientiageneralis.com.br:article/376Revistahttps://scientiageneralis.com.br/index.php/SGPRIhttps://scientiageneralis.com.br/index.php/SG/oaieditor@scientiageneralis.com.br2675-29992675-2999opendoar:2023-08-01T03:32:14Scientia Generalis - Publicação independentefalse
