Resumo: Recent research in institutional process has evoked the role of power and interests. Through discourse, actors reproduce domination. Throughout this paper, I analyse the web of discursive justifications deployed by Down Beat editors to justify its critics's poll, along the period from 1953 to 1970. I argue that DB attempted to mimic a democratic forum, but faced fierce condemnation to its poll from critics and artistis. I characterize Down Beat's rhetoric under the frame of symbolic violence proposed by Bourdieu. I conclude this article on a discussion on a symbolic appropriation and collusion, which might occur in tandem with institutional effort.
