Resumo: The aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of human capital in regional concentration of Parana’s State economical growth, at the beginning of the 21st century. To do so, the panel data methodology has been used, with 399 Paraná State’s municipalities as a sample between 1999 and 2006, segmented by mesoregions. The results show that the largest growth mesoregions, during the period, were also those who had higher coefficient of human capital. However, this variable had the highest performance in mesoregions in which there were stronger interactions with social capital, or in conjunction with physical or natural capital. Thus, factors such as level of education (human capital), and association and cooperation of the population (social capital) are among the main determinants of economic growth.

Para tanto, optou-se pela metodologia de dados de painel, tendo como amostra os 399 municípios paranaenses, entre 1999 e 2006, segmentada por mesorregião. Os resultados evidenciam que as mesorregiões que obtiveram maior crescimento econômico no período estudado também foram as que alcançaram maior coeficiente para o capital humano. Contudo, essa variável obteve maior desempenho nas mesorregiões em que houve maior interação com o capital social, seja em conjunto com o capital físico ou com o capital natural.
