The objective of this article is to analyze the industrial structure of Paraná, categorizing economic activities according to levels of technological intensity, and identify the most dynamic productive sectors in terms of competitiveness in foreign trade. For this, methodologies are used that enable the comparative analysis between Paraná and the main Brazilian subnational economies. The type of research is descriptive, with documentary support and quantitative approach. In comparison with the economies of patterns similar to Paraná, it is pointed out that the productive restructuring, especially of the industry, is a fundamental condition for the competitiveness of foreign trade and the socioeconomic development of the state. In this, a factor to be considered is the marked primary character of the economy of Paraná, from which recurrent weather in recent years have generated uncertainties and negatively impacted its overall economic performance.
