Analysis of Environmental Degradation in Cities and Mesoregions of Paraná

Resumo: The aim of this work is to analyze the pattern of environmental degradation in the cities and mesoregions of the State of Paraná, creating a Degradation Index. In this sense, we studied 27 variables from 399 cities in the year of 2006. The average value of the environmental degradation of the cities is 67.76 %. This value is a significant number and demonstrates that more than half of the State of Paraná area faces problems related to environmental degradation. Regarding the cities, it can be seen that many of them have 100 % of relation with the Degradation Index. These cities and their mesoregions have a direct connection with the agricultural activity, which confirms the involvement of this activity in the aggravation of the phenomenon. Furthermore, issues such as rural poverty and natural limitations can aggravate the situation of environmental degradation. However, family agriculture practices as well as improvement in environmental education may reduce these rates.

En este sentido, se estudiaron 27 variables de 399 municipios del estado para el año 2006. El valor medio de degradación ambiental de esos municipios es de 67,76%. Ese valor es alto y demuestra que más de la mitad del territorio del Paraná se enfrenta a problemas relacionados con la degradación del medio ambiente. En cuanto a los municipios, se observa que muchos de ellos tienen el 100% en el Índice de Degradación. Estos municipios y sus mesorregiones tienen una conexión directa con la actividad agrícola, lo que confirma la participación de esta actividad en la intensificación del fenómeno. Además, temas como la pobreza rural y las limitaciones naturales pueden agravar la situación de degradación del medio ambiente. Sin embargo, prácticas relacionadas con la agricultura familiar, así como también mejorías en la educación ambiental, pueden disminuir estos índices.O objetivo deste trabalho consiste em analisar o padrão de degradação dos municípios e das mesorregiões do estado do Paraná a partir da criação de um Índice de Degradação (ID). Neste sentido, foram pesquisadas 27 variáveis de 399 municípios paranaenses para o ano de 2006. O valor médio da degradação ambiental desses municípios é de 67,76%. Esse valor é de alta representatividade e demonstra que mais da metade do território paranaense enfrenta problemas relacionados à degradação ambiental. No que tange aos municípios, verifica-se que muitos deles possuem 100% com relação ao índice de degradação. Esses municípios e suas respectivas mesorregiões possuem ligação direta com a atividade agropecuária, confirmando a participação dessa atividade no agravamento do fenômeno. Além disso, questões como pobreza rural e limitações naturais podem intensificar a situação da degradação do ambiente. Contudo, práticas relacionadas à agricultura familiar, bem como melhorias na educação ambiental, podem vir a reduzir estes índices.
