Resumo: This article presents some considerations on school discipline problems at the elementary through high school levels. Initially it approaches the concept of discipline problems, examining their main forms of expression, as well as the current causes and characteristics. Then it explores some of the unique aspects of discipline problems that are currently being observed, emphasizing the importance of preventive practices as the most effective strategy for facing such problems. Finally, this article describes some schoolwide strategies of preventive discipline, highlighting the need for sharing attitudes on discipline problems, through a democratically constructed policy.

Inicialmente discute o próprio conceito de indisciplina escolar, considerando suas principais formas de expressão, explorando, a seguir, algumas das suas causas e características atuais. Destaca aspectos singulares da indisciplina escolar neste final de século e a importância do enfoque preventivo como estratégia mais adequada para enfrentar o problema.
