India, NDB and CRA of the BRICS: perceptions and interests

Resumo: India sees in the acronym BRICS several important possibilities to amplify its international insertion seeking to increase its participation in International Organizations that India believes are unrepresentative with emerging powers. However, concomitantly, India utilizes the BRICS as a “critical counterpoint” for the actual Global Order to smooth some issues and; therewith, widen its relations with OECD countries. It is worthwhile mentioning that those Indian international actions are important to consolidate Narendra Modi’s internal policies, whose government was sworn in at 2014. The New Development Bank (NDB) and the Contingency Reserve Arrangement (CRA) are extremely relevant for Indian foreign policy because these international instruments can aid Indian government to fund important projects to strengthen the increasing flow of foreign direct investments to India. Furthermore, this State has an interest in developing a “balanced position” with China. All the elements presents in this essay were selected from several texts written by intellectuals and think tanks.

El Nuevo Banco de Desarrollo (NBD) y el Arreglo Contingente de Reservas (ACR) tienen gran relevancia a la India, para viabilizar inversiones y protección cambial. Está presente también el interés en desarrollar un posicionamento equilibrado en las relaciones con China. Esos elementos aparecen en trabajos de intelectuales y de think tanks, reunidos aleatoriamente para un ejercicio analítico exploratorio.A Índia vê no BRICS possibilidades de ampliar sua inserção externa em busca de maior presença em organizações internacionais, em que se julga sub-representada, como os demais BRICS, mas busca também um contraponto “crítico” à ordem internacional para facilitar internamente seus objetivos de ampliar a aproximação com os países da OCDE e consolidar as mudanças de política econômica doméstica propostas pelo governo de Narendra Modi, empossado em 2014. O Novo Banco de Desenvolvimento (NBD) e o Arranjo Contingente de Reservas (ACR) têm grande relevância para a Índia, no sentido de viabilizar investimentos e proteção cambial. Está presente também o interesse em desenvolver um posicionamento equilibrado nas relações com a China.
