Wealth and Inequality in the State of Amazonas

Resumo: | Inequality in income distribution is still a serious issue in the Brazilian economy. By taking a regional approach, this paper aim is to estimate a series of indicators of wealth for the state of Amazonas in the period from 1995 to 2015, using national sample household survey data (PNAD). Wealth was estimated for the entire sample (100%) and also for the 1% richest. The results show that the period from 1995 to 2015 was one of economic growth (with a GDP and a GDP increase of 70,51% and 5,48% per capita, respectively), but that unemployment also increased, by 27.85%. In such a scenario, there was a reduction in income concentration (10.67%), an increase in the affluence line (14.20%) and in the number of rich people (2.67%), as well as a decrease in other wealth indicators (concaveand convex) considering the entire sample (100%). Regarding the 1% richest, all wealth indicators declined in the period in terms of lower disparities between the wealth of the 1% and in the volume of wealth they maintained. |

Buscando ofrecer alternativas a ese problema y con un abordaje regional, este artículo estima una serie de medidas de riqueza para el estado de Amazonas en el período 1995-2015 haciendo uso de los datos de la Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Anual (PNAD-Anual). Las medidas de riqueza se estimaron para la totalidad de la muestra (100%) y también solo para el 1% de los más ricos. Los resultados demuestran que el período 1995-2015 fue de crecimiento económico en el estado (PIB y PIB per capita con aumentos de respectivamente 70,51% y 5,48%), pero con aumento de la tasa de desempleo (27,85%).En ese escenario, hubo una reducción de la concentración de renta (10,67%), un aumento de la línea de riqueza (14,20%) y de la proporción de personas ricas (2,67%), junto a undescenso de las demás medidas de riqueza (cóncavas y convexas) cuando se considera la totalidad de la muestra. En relación al 1% más rico, todas las medidas de riqueza deese estrato han mostrado una caída en el período, y eso ocurrió en términos de menores disparidades entre los ricos del 1% y en el volumen de riqueza mantenido por ellos.A desigualdade na distribuição de renda ainda é uma grave questão da economia brasileira. Visando a fornecer alternativas a esse problema e focado numa abordagem regional, este artigo estima uma série de medidas de riqueza para o Estado do Amazonas no período de1995 a 2015, fazendo uso dos dados da Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios Anual (PNAD-Anual). As medidas de riqueza foram estimadas para a totalidade da amostra (100%) e também para apenas o 1% mais rico. Os resultados mostram que o período 1995-2015 foi de crescimento econômico no estado, com PIB e PIB per capita com aumentos de 70,51% e 5,48%, respectivamente, mas com um aumento de taxa de desemprego de 27,85%. Nesse cenário, houve redução da concentração de renda (10,67%), aumento da linha de riqueza (14,20%) e da proporção de pessoas ricas (2,67%), além de uma queda das demais medidas de riqueza (côncavas e convexas) quando considerada a totalidade da amostra (100%).
