Prematurity: An analysis of maternal-fetal health

This article aims to publicize the issue of neonatal prematurity, in a broad view, through an integrative literature review, encompassing its causal multifactoriality, its effects and its participation on maternal and/or fetal health. It also presents a trajectory of pregnancy contemplating the personal, obstetric, social and cultural aspects, in addition to providing data on different contexts involving prematurity and maternal-fetal health. Finally, it shows the impacts of prematurity that go beyond the family, being a public health issue that affects the public health system. In conclusion, despite the great advances in prenatal care and the decrease in premature birth rates, there is still much to be done to intensify care in this perspective, especially in primary care.
