The Mourning surrounding HIV/AIDS: Analysis of the Experience of Grief in the Face of the Diagnosis

The HIV/SIDA clinic is marked by situations of loss, concrete and symbolic, that demand adaptive efforts from people living with HIV/SIDA, considerable rearrangements and elaboration of mourning around their new lifestyle. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze through a bibliographical study, how the mourning process around HIV/SIDA develops in HIV/SIDA individuals, based on the concept of coping experienced in the personal, family and social spheres since receiving the positive diagnosis to the experience of living with the infection and its close relationship with the health-illness dynamics.  Thus, this article identified that people living with HIV/SIDA still suffer from some type of prejudice, whether in social groups, or in their own family, among others, accentuating the representation of fear and shame about the disease. Thus, until now, it is considered that the introduction of psychological aspects of coping can considerably influence, both positively and negatively, the quality of life and even the survival of people living with HIV/SIDA.
