Resumo: | This thesis discusses the design of Active Sidestick for commercial airplanes. The Active Sidestick is a control device installed in the airplane cockpit, and used to convert the pilot's arm and wrist movements into attitude commands to the airplane. Simultaneously, the Active Sidestick provides to the pilot, by means of actuators connected to its hinges, a force in response to the command demand, which direction and intensity - modulated accordingly to the airplane configuration and flight conditions - relates in a unique manner to the direction and response of the airplane. The discussions and conclusions in this Thesis constitute the Viability Analysis of the Active Sidestick. The following aspects are covered:The need for Active Sidesticks - JustificationDesign requirements definitionProposal of design solutionsDevelopment of dynamic models for simulation and analysisDevelopment of a functional prototype for the validation of the dynamic models, and verification of the viability of the proposed solutions. The background required for the understanding of the discussions related to the Viability Analysis of the Active Sidestick, and a complete definition of what is an Active Sidestick are provided in the first Chapters of this thesis. The selection of the best solution for the design of the Active Sidestick is not a subject of this thesis. |
