Resumo: Ibuprofen is a medicine widely used to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and reduce fevers, and is considered effective and safe in adults when used correctly. However, its use in pediatrics requires caution due to the associated risks. Therefore, the present work used an integrative bibliographic review as its methodology, which aims to provide a comprehensive view of the use of ibuprofen in children and its side effects. In which it was highlighted that some studies have shown that prolonged use or excessive doses of ibuprofen in children can cause damage to the gastrointestinal system, such as ulcers, bleeding and inflammation. Furthermore, prolonged use of the medication can lead to kidney, liver and cardiovascular problems. Therefore, it is essential to understand the risks involved and adopt an individualized approach based on the characteristics of each child. In this review, possible side effects and complications associated with inappropriate use of ibuprofen in children will be considered. Strategies are addressed to minimize risks and promote the use of this medication in this age group. Correct and up-to-date information is essential to ensure adequate care and safety for pediatric patients. In conclusion, ibuprofen is a useful medicine for relieving pain, reducing inflammation and reducing fevers in children, as long as it is used with caution and following medical instructions. Understanding the associated risks and adopting measures to minimize them are essential to promote the safe use of this medicine in children and preserve their health.
