Resumo: Introduction: Whooping cough is an acute infectious disease, highly transmissible and universally distributed, whose etiological agent is Bordatella pertussis. It specifically affects the respiratory system and is characterized by paroxysms of dry cough. General objective: To analyze the impact of vaccination coverage on hospitalizations and deaths from pertussis. Methodology: descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative study on the impact of vaccination coverage on hospitalizations and deaths from pertussis in Alagoas. Results and discussion: Between 2014 and 2022, 723 cases of pertussis were recorded in the state of Alagoas. 52.84% were female and 47.16% were male. The number of cases in children under one year old was predominant. In 2018, there was the highest coverage with the pentavalent vaccine, while 2020 reached the lowest coverage. In the period studied, 269 hospitalizations for pertussis were recorded. Of these hospitalizations, 82.59% were children under one year old. In 2014, there was the highest mortality rate compared to later years. Conclusion: Based on the data obtained, it is concluded that the main factor for the incidence, hospitalization and deaths from pertussis is the incomplete vaccination schedule and the loss of acquired immunity due to low vaccination coverage. To face this reality, it is proposed to create strategies to increase the immunization rate in children and pregnant women in order to avoid a re-emergence of pertussis in the most vulnerable group. Keywords: Pertussis. Vaccination. Death. Hospitalization.

Hospitalization.
