Germination of cereus jamacaru dc. Subsp. Jamacaru from four areas of curimataú oriental paraíbano subjected to different temperatures

Resumo: Cereus jamacaru DC. subsp. jamacaru, belonging to the Cactaceae family and endemic to Brazil, is predominantly found in the Northeast region. It is a species that thrives in areas with dry climates and shallow soils, exhibiting robust growth within temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C. This study aimed to investigate the germination potential of mandacaru seeds from four areas within the Curimataú Oriental in the municipality of Solânea-PB, subjected to two temperatures, constituting a 4 x 2 factorial design. The germination test was conducted with 4 replicates of 50 seeds, using "blotting paper" as the substrate, totaling 200 seeds per treatment, at temperatures of 25°C and 30°C, designed in a completely randomized design. The variables analyzed were germination, germination speed index (GSI), and mean germination time (MGT). Germination was not influenced by temperatures; however, the GSI and MGT stood out at 30°C. Concerning the areas, seeds from the Salgado area exhibited higher germination averages, while Varjota and Palma showed higher GSI and MGT, respectively. C. jamacaru seeds from the Curimataú Paraibano region in Solânea presented significant differences in germination among the studied areas, with Salgado area recording the highest mean (97%). Cereus jamacaru DC. subsp. jamacaru at 30°C displayed increased vigor concerning GSI, especially in the Varjota area. In the Palma area, the seeds exhibited a shorter mean germination time (4.01 days) at 30°C.

É uma espécie que se desenvolve bem em áreas de clima seco e solos rasos, com bom desenvolvimento em temperaturas que se enquadram no intervalo de 20°C e 30 ºC. Este trabalho objetivou investigar o potencial de germinação de sementes de mandacaru provenientes de quatro áreas do Curimataú Oriental do município de Solânea-PB submetidas a duas temperaturas, constituindo um fatorial 4 x 2. O teste de germinação foi conduzido com 4 repetições de 50 sementes, utilizando-se o papel “mata-borrão” como substrato, totalizando 200 sementes tratamento, nas temperaturas de 25°C e 30°C, desenvolvido em delineamento inteiramente casualizado. As variáveis analisadas foram: germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e o tempo médio de germinação. A germinação não foi influenciada pelas temperaturas, entretanto, o índice de velocidade de germinação e o tempo médio de germinação se sobressaíram na temperatura 30°C. Em relação às áreas, as sementes provenientes da área Salgado obtiveram médias elevadas de germinação, as de Varjota e Palma para o IVG e tempo médio de germinação, respectivamente. As sementes de C. jamacaru provenientes do Curimataú Paraibano de Solânea apresentaram diferenças significativas quanto à germinação em relação às áreas estudadas, sendo a área Salgado a que obteve maior média (97%). As sementes de Cereus jamacaru DC. Subsp. jamacaru na temperatura de 30ºC apresentaram maior vigor em relação ao IVG, com destaque para a área Varjota.
