Resumo: Introduction: Just as every Brazilian citizen has the right to health, the indigenous population should also receive comprehensive care, and it is necessary to respect the customs already used there based on the principles of the Unified Health System (SUS). Objective: To perform a critical reflection, from a diverse, curious and interested look at an SUS indigenous primary health care unit. Methodology: Descriptive study, of experience report type, carried out during visits to the Xukuru Kariri indigenous community, located in the municipality of Palmeira dos Índios – AL, Brasil, in the period from 2018 to 2019. Results: Explanation of the researchers' experiences with the mentioned indigenous health group. Being aggregated to these, some related epistemological classifications, and the visualization of Madeleine Leininger's theory in practice. Conclusion: Training and specialization based on an ethnocultural approach for non-indigenous nurses, scientific knowledge and empirical knowledge need to work together for good adherence of these conducts in the village.
