Resumo: In 2021 Brazil reached third place in the world in chicken meat production with 14.5 billion tons of meat and was the country that exported the most of its products. Due to the presence of infected bird feces in poultry litter, salmonella can be found. Prevention involves practicing hygiene and biosecurity in the rearing facilities, such as cleaning and disinfection of the houses and equipment used during the production of a flock. Litter fermentation is a technique encouraged and allowed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) described in Normative Instruction No. 56 of December 4, 2007, is a biological process that aims to reduce the parasite load in the bed in order to reuse it. This study describes the identification of the presence of salmonella and the efficiency of the biological fermentation procedure of poultry litter from 156 farms in the western region of Paraná. The study identified 156 salmonella positive farms at 21 days of chick life between June 2021 and December 2022. After the exit of the flock, they followed the protocol fermentation and lowering of litter provided by the integrator, after the process performed in the interval, a new collection of swab was performed for analysis of salmonella where 154 farms showed negative reports and the efficient procedure in reducing the bacteria.
