Resumo: This study aimed to analyze the main forms of HIV transmission among adults in Brazil, as well as how this disease impacts their quality of life. This is an integrative review with descriptive analysis on the epidemiology and quality of life of adults living with HIV/AIDS in Brazil. It was adopted as theoretical and methodological reference the analysis of articles from the main platforms of scientific articles, 16 studies were selected to use in the integrative review. The study evidenced that currently 38.4 million people in the world live with HIV. Where 1.5 million people will become newly infected with HIV in the year 2021 alone. Data provided by DataSus also shows that 84.2 million people have been infected with HIV since the beginning of the epidemic, and 40.1 million people have died from AIDS-related diseases since the beginning of the epidemic. In relation to quality of life, studies show that in recent years there has been an increase in the life expectancy index, through the evolution of biological markers and the advance of ART, significantly improving the concept of quality of life for this population. Technological advances have been conquered by generations in the confrontation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, increasing life expectancy and quality of life, obtaining great potential to end the epidemic cases. It is concluded that social representations about the quality of life of HIV/AIDS carriers are directly influenced by several aspects related to the process of living with a chronic disease, triggering moral judgments, which come from the beginning of the epidemic, by pre-defined representations about HIV/AIDS, directly implying changes in interpersonal, intersocial and professional relationships
