Resumo: Introduction: Temperature is one of the clinical indicators that demonstrates the effectiveness of body homeostasis, being a vital sign. It is strictly controlled by the body, however, during the perioperative period, there are frequent changes in thermoregulation, leading to inadvertent hypothermia. Inadvertent perioperative hypothermia (IPH) is an adverse event of great relevance in surgical patients, which can cause complications ranging from bodily discomfort to severe hemodynamic changes. Objective: To identify strategies for the prevention and/or control of IPH by the nursing team. Methodology: This is a literary review based on scientific articles published in LILACS and PUBMED databases. Results: The actions to control and prevent PIH by the nursing team include monitoring the patient's core body temperature, assessing the risks of PIH, planning and implementing active and passive heating methods during all phases of the perioperative process in order to ensure the quality of health service provision, the safety and comfort of surgical patients. Conclusion: Nursing actions to control and prevent PIH are efficient when there is a combination of passive and active heating methods.
