Difficulties faced by pharmaceutical professionals in the unique health system (SUS)

Pharmaceutical care in the primary care component of the Unified Health System (SUS), among other benefits, is essential to promote the rational use of medicines. Since the inclusion of the SUS in Brazilian public health, pharmaceutical care has been part of health care, but many were the challenges faced by the pharmacist in this process. This study is a Literature Review, carried out in free digital scientific databases, whose objective was to identify the pharmacist's challenges in carrying out pharmaceutical assistance in the SUS. In the literature, several difficulties were reported in the insertion of the pharmacist in the SUS, such as irregularity in the supply of medicines, lack of vacancy for the pharmaceutical professional in the Multidisciplinary Team, lack of adequate physical conditions for the storage and dispensing of medicines, as well as shortage of pharmacists and pharmacies in the public service. Pharmacy courses have been adapting to what is required by the Brazilian reality, but pharmaceutical care still needs to be recognized as an integral part of basic health care in the Brazilian unified health system.
