Evidence-based cesarean indication

Objective: The study aims at identifying indications for cesarean section based on scientific evidence, women's knowledge about the subject and the impacts on nursing professionals who accompany these women. Method: This is an integrative literature review using the PRISMA flowchart. The search was carried out from 2018 to 2022 in the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO) and in the  Scientific and Technical Literature of Latin America and the Caribbean (LILACS) electronic databases. 12 articles have been selected. The PICO strategy was used to develop the guiding question. Results: In order to summarize the findings of this study, it was necessary to carry out a more thorough analysis through specific themes, which will be developed in the following categories: indications for cesarean sections based on evidence and practice, factors that influence the mode of delivery, risk and benefit of cesarean section compared to normal delivery, importance of nurses in obstetric care. Conclusion: There are gaps in the knowledge of professionals about indications for cesarean sections based on evidence. Public policies that favor humanized care based on “good Practices of Care for Childbirth and Birth” should be created. Keywords: ‘’pregnant’’, ‘’cesarean rate’’, ‘’birth plan’’, ‘’uterine rupture’.
