Resumo: The paper is based on the theoretical basis of technological change or radical innovation, which is anchored in evolutionary dynamics perspective. In this context, the study specifically deals of strategies of eco-innovations, defined as innovations with an emphasis on sustainable development, resulting in its entire life cycle, in the reduce environmental risk, pollution and other negative impacts of resources use, compared with alternatives existing. The general objective was to analyze the relationships between contextual factors internal to organizations and the adoption of proactive and reactive strategies for eco-innovation, focusing on the sector of Pulp, Paper and Paper Products. The study had as general goal to analyze relationships between internal contextual factors to the organizations and the adoption of proactive and reactive eco-innovation strategies, focusing on the Brazilian sector Pulp, Paper and Paper Products. The methodological approach is quantitative, by survey cross-sectional with self-administered questionnaires answered by 117 companies. For data analysis, was used inferential statistics by Pearson correlation coefficient and of determination. The main results show that there was a significantly positive relationship between top management support, technological competence, environmental formalization, with defining proactive eco-innovation strategies. This corroborates to some extent the existing theory of that these factors are highly conducting of proactive strategies. With these results, it can be considered that this study contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the area of eco-innovation strategies, with the definition of the variables of the constructs and tests of hypotheses. Therefore, this study contributes both to the existing theory, how to the eco-innovations manage in organizations and may serve as a guide in conducting innovative approach to environmental management from industry at sector and in other sectors of activity, besides the increase of research in this area. The originality lies in the fact to be a specially designed and applied study empirically, providing information on the management of eco-innovation, on drivers and effects, allowing detailed analyzes, which are considered gaps in the literature.
