Strategies and tactics performed by familial organizations in Mercadão de Madureira (Rio de Janeiro)

Resumo: | In this paper, our main goal was to present a discussion about small familial organizations inside Mercadão de Madureira (in Rio de Janeiro). The discussion is based on a study of multiple cases. We intended to comprehend how families could survive facing contextual changes along almost a century. We wanted to know which tactics and strategies were used by managers and other subjects involved in familial organizations in order to guarantee their survival. We worked, in this case, with the concept of strategy as practice, which is associated with the perspective of everyday life and influences individuals’ practical knowledge. We also based on social representations as a way to relate representation and action. In order to reach our goals, we chose a qualitative methodological approach, because this would be the most appropriate one, considering our theoretical perspective of strategy as practice and process. Qualitative approach allows better observations, arising from associations between research subjects, research locus and researcher. Empirical work was developed by in loco interviews. Conversations were recorded, transcripted and then analyzed according to elements proposed by Discourse Analysis area. Data analysis took into account the identification of implicit ideas (presupposed and inferred), thematic courses and polyphony. From interpretation of collected data, we could comprehend that strategic processes performed by organizational managers are metamorphosed in an everyday basis, continuing carving and polishing practical knowledge and space itself. In addition, we could understand that strategic practices are not delineated only inside familial organizations, because they are never alone in everyday practices. Tactics and strategies are supported by each other. In this way, they all together end up building the Mercadão de Madureira organization. In a nutshell, we observed that, besides all perspectives pointed by spatial representation literature, it is necessary to focus on such representations (physical and symbolical). Indeed, symbolical space was considered a key-element to our research. The paper’s originality resides on the way we have studied strategy. We avoided the perspective that subjects (managers of their own organization) cannot develop social practices with strategic and tactic senses in order to maintain their businesses and their families. |

Con este estudio multicasos, se intenta presentar una discusión, acerca de como pequeñas organizaciones familiares del Mercadão de Madureira (Rio de Janeiro), lograron y logran supervivir, tras cambios contextuales a los cuales fueron sometidas a lo largo de casi un siglo de historia. Se quiso saber cuáles las estratégias y tácticas de los gestores y demás sujetos involucrados en dichas organizaciones familiares les permitieron la supervivencia. Se trabajó el concepto de estratégia como práctica, asociándolo a la perspectiva del cotidiano y del contexto, que influencian los saberes-haceres de los individuos. Se buscó las representaciones sociales como camino para la relación entre representación y acción. El abordaje metodológico fue cualitativo, por ser la alternativa más adecuada a la perspectiva teórica de estrategia como práctica y como proceso, permitiendo un análisis más rico, a partir de las observaciones de la asociación entre sujeto de investigación, locus de trabajo e investigador. Fueron hechas entrevistas grabadas en el Mercadão, las cuales fueron transcritas y entonces analizadas según el análisis del discurso. Los análisis fueron desarrollados en cuanto a los implícitos (presupuestos y sobrentendidos), los recorridos temáticos y a la polifonía. Así, se comprendió que los procesos estratégicos emprendidos por los gestores de las organizaciones son cotidianamente metamorfoseados, esculpiendo y puliendo cada vez más los saberes-haceres y el proprio espacio. Además, se observó que las prácticas estratégicas no son dibujadas solamente en las organizaciones familiares, ya que nunca están solas en sus prácticas cotidianas. Las tácticas y estrategias se sostienen unas a las otras configurando la organización Mercadão de Madureira. El trabajo contribuye con los estudios de estrategia al presentar que, además de las perspectivas apuntadas por los autores que trabajan la representación espacial, es necesario un enfoque sobre los aspectos físicos y simbólicos, una vez que el espacio simbólico fue un elemento-clave para la investigación. La originalidade de este trabajo está en la manera que se busca estudiar la estrategia, saliendo de la perspectiva de que los sujetos – gestores de cualquier negocio – no pueden desarrollar prácticas sociales en las cuales se intercalan estrategias y tácticas de supervivencia del negocio y de la familia. O objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma discussão, por meio de um estudo multicasos, acerca de como pequenas organizações familiares, inseridas no Mercadão de Madureira (Rio de Janeiro), conseguiram e conseguem sobreviver tendo em vista as mudanças contextuais as quais essas organizações foram submetidas ao longo de quase um século de história. Objetivou-se saber quais são as táticas e estratégias empreendidas pelos gestores e demais sujeitos envolvidos nessas organizações familiares que lhes permitiram a sobrevivência. Trabalhou-se com o conceito de estratégia como prática, que se associa à perspectiva do cotidiano e do contexto, que influenciam os saberes-fazeres dos indivíduos. Buscou-se na noção de representações sociais um caminho pela relação entre representação e ação. A abordagem metodológica foi qualitativa, pois entendeu-se que seria a alternativa mais adequada à perspectiva teórica da estratégia como prática e como processo, permitindo maior riqueza das observações advindas da associação entre sujeito de pesquisa, locus de trabalho e pesquisador. A pesquisa empírica foi desenvolvida a partir de entrevistas, que foram gravadas, transcritas e analisadas de acordo com caminhos propostos no âmbito da análise do discurso. Foram feitas análises quanto aos implícitos, aos percursos temáticos e à existência de polifonia. Com base nos dados analisados, compreendeu-se que os processos estratégicos empreendidos pelos gestores das organizações são cotidianamente metamorfoseados, esculpindo e polindo cada vez mais os saberes-fazeres e o próprio espaço. Além disso, compreendeu-se que as práticas estratégicas não são delineadas apenas nas organizações familiares, pois elas nunca estão sozinhas em suas práticas cotidianas. As táticas e estratégias sustentam-se umas às outras, configurando assim a organização Mercadão de Madureira. O trabalho contribui para os estudos de estratégia no sentido de mostrar que, além das perspectivas apontadas pelos autores que tratam da questão da representação espacial, é necessário ainda um foco sobre tal representação, tanto física como simbólica, tendo sido o espaço simbólico um elemento-chave para a pesquisa.
