Resumo: Purpose: to explore, describe and explain the relationship between the disposition of an international investor to invest in Brazil and the country´s competitive environment, in order to identify the existing relevant factors, to stimulate investments.Originality/Gap/Relevance/Implications: it states in the fact that it utilizes a multivariate analysis in order to establish and explain the relationships between several quantitative variables.Key methodological aspects: the identification of such relations came from the application of a canonical analysis among the FDI as inbound flow and accumulation with a series of explicative variables, representative of the Brazilian competitive environment. The data from 1997 to 2011 came from national and international sources.Summary of key results: the output shows a strong correlation between the IDE in Brazil and some indicators of the country competitive environment.Key considerations/conclusions: there exists a strong correlation between the IDE and the Brazilian competitive environment, demonstrated through the two canonical functions generated. The relevant explicative variables were the well-being of the society, the labor productivity and the imports. A practical issue, the work offers a single tool for decision making previous analysis.

A practical issue, the work offers a single tool for decision making previous analysis.Objetivo: explorar, describir e explicar la relación entre la disposición de un inversor internacional a invertir en Brasil y el ambiente competitivo brasileño, con la finalidad de identificar los factores de estímulo existentes.Originalidad/Laguna/Relevancia/Implicaciones: radica en el hecho de utilizar un análisis multivariado para establecer y explicar la relación entre diversas variables cuantitativas.Principales aspectos metodológicos: la identificación de esas relaciones resultó de la aplicación de un análisis canónico entre la inversión extranjera como flujo y acumulación, con una serie de variables explicativas representantes del ambiente competitivo brasileño. Los datos utilizados correspondientes al período 1997 a 2011, fueron levantados a partir de fuentes nacionales e internacionales.Síntesis de los principales resultados: el análisis multivariado mostró una fuerte correlación entre la inversión directa extranjera y algunos indicadores del ambiente competitivo del país.Principales consideraciones/conclusiones: determinar que existe una fuerte correlación entre las variables estudiadas, que generaron dos funciones canónicas. Ellas explican que las variables relevantes que estimulan la elección del Brasil como destino de la IDE son el bienestar de la sociedad, la productividad y las importaciones. Como contribución, el trabajo ofrece una herramienta simple de análisis previa a la decisión de invertir.Objetivo: explorar, descrever e explicar a relação entre a disposição de um investidor internacional a investir no Brasil e o ambiente competitivo brasileiro, com a finalidade de identificar os fatores de estímulo existentes.Originalidade/Lacuna/Relevância/Implicações: radica no fato de utilizar a análise multivariada para estabelecer e explicar a relação entre diversas variáveis quantitativas.Principais aspectos metodológicos:  a identificação dessas relações resultou da aplicação de uma análise canônica entre o investimento estrangeiro como fluxo de entrada e acumulação e uma série de variáveis explicativas representantes do ambiente competitivo brasileiro. Os dados utilizados correspondentes ao período 1997 a 2011, foram levantados a partir de fontes nacionais e internacionais.Síntese dos principais resultados: a análise mostrou uma forte correlação entre o investimento direto estrangeiro no Brasil e alguns indicadores do ambiente competitivo do país.Principais considerações/conclusões: determinou-se que existe uma forte correlação entre o investimento produtivo internacional e o ambiente competitivo Brasileiro nas duas funções canônicas geradas. As variáveis explicativas relevantes que estimulam a escolha do Brasil como destino do IDE, são o bem-estar da sociedade, a produtividade do trabalho e as importações.
