O sofrimento de gays e lésbicas vítimas de violência: um estudo do fenômeno na perspectiva da psicologia junguiana

Violence against gays and lesbians is present in different contexts, such as family, friends, religion, politics, heath. This study aims to understand, describe, and explain the suffering of gay and lesbian victims of violence, as well to identify the consequences of this suffering in their lives. The work is based on theoretical contributions from the Jungian psychology and, this is a qualitative, exploratory research, developed through the design of a case study. As an instrument for selecting the interviewees, the application of an interest form and a questionnaire were used, and as a data collection instrument a semi-structured interview, the Beck Depression Inventory – BDI-II psychological test and the WHOQOL-bref quality of life assessment instrument were used. A sample of 12 people, men and women, aged 18 and over, homosexual victims of violence, with psychological distress identified by the questionnaire and confirmed by the assessment instruments. The data were submitted to Bardin’s Content Analysis and generated the following categories: a) I’m Gay / I’m Lesbian: How is my surroundings? b) I’m Gay / I’m Lesbian: What do I perceive and how I feel? c) I’m Gay / I’m Lesbian: Who am I? The categories presented the respective subcategories: a) family; friends; policy; religion; b) fear; preconception; discrimination; self-denial; Suffering; c) publicizing sexuality and violence; education/information. As a result, it was possible to know the consequences of violence, prejudice, and discrimination in the lives of these people, confirming the hypothesis that when gays and lesbians are victims of violence, because they are not accepted and do not feel free to live and exist, they may fear for their own lives and enter into deep suffering, becoming ill due to the degree of anguish they are subjected to.(AU)
