This research aims to study the role of David Keirsey’s types in understanding the various religious profiles. Such approach seems to be methodologically reasonable and very effective in order to identify and characterise the various types in religious field. This understanding is all the more necessary considering, among other reasons, that religion is – even from a temperament point of view – universal, for everyone and each leader has his (/her) specific type, And especially for a religious leader is very necessary to avoid the psychological bias of considering his (/her) own type the “right” one in religious realm and in religious values. Knowing his (/her) own style is a good basis for leadership, because it allows understading (and appreciating) all the other types there are in church. Precisely “understanding” is a keyword for Keirsey (it is in the very title of his two main books: Please Understand me – I & II) is also a must for religions and churches. Besides all this, it is not by chance that “understanding” is also, according to Josef Pieper, a methodological keyword in our Idealtypus method of Verstehen (to understand). According to all these purposes, this work examines and discusses the concepts and types of Keirsey – the four pairs of preferences I/E, S/N, F/T and J/P; the four temperaments SP, SJ, NF and NT; and the sixteen more detailed types – in their relationship with preferences in several religious dimensions: devotion, spirituality, pastoral, belonging, leadership, predication, christian life, politics, morals etc.
