The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a hospital section designed to attend patients in critical state, and need of the complex cares and rigid controls and, therefore, always generates a stressant environment, not only for the critical care team but to the patient and his family, and therefore is associated frequently to depression and anxiety states. These factors lead to human necessities approach, in the attendance to the patient, as well as of his family. The concern with the humanization must be present in the nursing teams as a philosophical guidelines, and must point to better qualities of these services. By humanizing the ICU, it means to take care of the patient as a whole, focusing on the biosocial- psycology environment, incorporating social values, family, personal, and cultural concerns. The humanização must be part of the philosophy of the nursing. The physical environment, the material and technological resources are important, however not more significant of what the nature human being. The thought and the actions of the nursing team feed the critical and the construction of a reality more human being and less aggressive and hostile reflection for the people who daily coexist in the hospital. Hospitalization not only modifies the patient routine but also of his family. In some sense, proper hospitalization can be lived as abandonment or death, so that it implies a removal of family environment, away from home, as well as a privacy invasion. The aim this work is identifying the family needs or his visitors, toward health team during the period of internment in the ICU and to evaluate the degree of satisfaction in relation to the quality of information and support given to the family or visitor. Results indicated that in Heliópolis Hospital, where the work was lead, the interviewed persons were satisfied with the perform of multiprofessional team; therefore the patients were well-taken care of, having concern with the patients, and that doctors were comprehensible and competents, providing informations in a comprehensible language to the family or visitors. However, it must be highlighted that 48% out the subjects pointed to the psychological support needs.(AU)
