Resumo: This research investigates the possible correlation between the anxiety and depression levels and the perception of social support in the nursing staff at the hospital environment. A descriptive exploratory method of quantitative comparative character is utilized. The entire Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), together with the S1 cognitive-affective, S2 somatic and performance subscales; the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI); the Perceived Social Support Scale (EPSS) and a socio-demographic-clinical questionnaire were applied in 39 nursing professionals, assistants and technicians of a medium-sized private hospital. BAI data presented an average frequency of 6.10 (DP=5.826); the total BDI, average of 7.36 (DP=5.163), with the average of 4.31 (DP=3.764) in the cognitive-affective subscale and average of 3.03 (DP=2.323) in the somatic and performance subscale. Data indicated anxiety symptoms in 15% and depression in 18% of the participants, in a mild intensity range, without significant functional impairment. The average factorial score presented of the perception of emotional social support is of 2.61 (DP=0.781), reaching in the practical support an average frequency of 2.28 (DP=0.686). A significant positive relation was verified (P=0.004) between the scores BAI and BDI BDIS1 and BDIS2. On the other hand, the correlation between the Perception of Emotional Social Support and the anxiety level verified by the BAI Scale presents a negative and inverse relation with BAI and the significant (P=0.022), i.e., while the perception of emotional support increases, the anxiety scale score decreases. A significant inverse negative correlation was also verified between the Perception of Emotional Social Support and the depression level verified by the total BDI scale (P=0.012), and with BDI S1 (P=0.019). The correlation between Perception of Practical Social Support and level depression found by the total BDI scale (P=0.016),and BDI S1 (P=0.014)has a negative and inverse significant, while the perception of practical support increases, the depression scale score decreases. These data indicate that the perception of social support has mediating effects in health protection, acting as moderator of the negative impact of possible adverse working conditions of the nursing professional.

Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-03T16:34:21Z (GMT).
