Resumo: This research analyzes the Prosperity Theology, especially its power to adapt religion to the logic of the consumer society. This theology arises in the United States in 1940, quickly establishing itself among evangelical influence reached even the so-called traditional churches. Its focus is the promise of prosperity for his people. The research aims to describe the roots and context of the emergence of this theology, their arrival and spread in Brazil, its main exponents and its appropriation by neo-Pentecostal churches. The suspicion that guides the research is that the success of Prosperity Theology is due to its ability to adapt religion to the logic of the consumer society.

Essa teologia surge nos Estados Unidos na década de 1940, consolidando-se rapidamente no meio evangélico, chegou a influenciar inclusive as igrejas denominadas tradicionais. Sua ênfase está na promessa da prosperidade para seus fiéis. A pesquisa pretende descrever as raízes e o contexto do surgimento desta teologia, sua chegada e propagação no Brasil, seus principais expoentes e sua apropriação pelas igrejas neopentecostais.
