Resumo: The present study was developed within the scope of the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE), at Universidade Nove de Julho (Uninove) and had the general objective of critically and contextually understanding the historical origins of the workers' union in public education. Mato Grosso (SINTEP/MT) and the challenges that arose in the decade that preceded its formal foundation as a trade union entity. The aforementioned union was fundamental in valuing the teaching career in Mato Grosso and reverberated in the achievements of the Brazilian working class. This is a qualitative research, in which data collection took place through bibliographical sources, documents and interviews. During the research, the results achieved with the survey of the primary sources that supported the study carried out on the history and memory of the Union of Public Education Workers of Mato Grosso – SINTEP/MT, between the years 1979 to 1989 are found. The documentary collection consisted of photographs, minutes, magazines and interviews with union activists who were protagonists in the transformation process of the Mato Grosso Association of Education Professionals (AMPE) into the aforementioned Union. Starting from the premise that the collected documentary sources do not speak for themselves, by organizing them, comparing them, with the help of theoretical and methodological references typical of historical and dialectical materialism, we moved towards to unveil the historic educational process of consolidation of SINTEP/MT and its importance in valuing the teaching career in Mato Grosso, as well as in the national movements of workers in education and integration in the struggles for the redemocratization of the country, which marked the period studied.

(SINTEP/MT) y los desafíos que surgieron en la década que precedió a su fundación formal como entidad sindical. La referida unión fue fundamental en la valorización de la carrera docente en Mato Grosso y repercutió en las conquistas de la clase de los trabjadores brasileños. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, en la que la recolección de datos se realizó a través de fuentes bibliográficas, documentos y entrevistas. Durante la investigación, se encuentran los resultados alcanzados con el levantamiento de las fuentes primarias que sustentaron el estudio realizado sobre la historia y la memoria del Sindicato de los Trabajadores de la Educación Pública de Mato Grosso – SINTEP/MT, entre los años 1979 a 1989. El acervo documental estuvo compuesto por fotografías, actas, revistas y entrevistas con activistas sindicales que fueron protagonistas en el proceso de transformación de la Asociación de Profesionales de la Educación de Mato Grosso (AMPE) en el citado Sindicato. Partiendo de la premisa de que las fuentes documentales recopiladas no hablan por sí solas, al organizarlas, compararlas, con la ayuda de referentes teóricos y metodológicos propios del materialismo histórico y dialéctico, se avanzó hacia develar el proceso histórico educativo de consolidación del SINTEP/MT y su importancia en la valorización de la carrera docente en Mato Grosso, así como en los movimientos nacionales de trabajadores de la educación y de integración en las luchas por la redemocratización del país, que marcaron el período estudiado.O presente estudo foi desenvolvido no âmbito do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação (PPGE), da Universidade Nove de Julho (Uninove) e teve o objetivo geral de compreender de forma crítica e contextualizada, as origens históricas do sindicato dos trabalhadores no ensino público de mato grosso (SINTEP/MT) e os desafios surgidos no decênio que antecedeu sua fundação formal enquanto entidade sindical. O sindicato supracitado foi fundamental na valorização da carreira docente mato-grossense e reverberou nas conquistas da classe trabalhadora brasileira. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, na qual a coleta dos dados ocorreu por meio de fontes bibliográfica, documentais e entrevista. No decorrer da pesquisa se encontram os resultados alcançados com o levantamento das fontes primárias que subsidiaram o estudo realizado sobre a história e a memória do Sindicato dos Trabalhadores do Ensino Público de Mato Grosso – SINTEP/MT, entre os anos de 1979 a 1989. O acervo documental constituiu-se de fotografias, atas, revistas e entrevistas realizadas com ativistas sindicais que protagonizaram o processo de transformação da Associação Mato-grossense de Profissionais da Educação (AMPE) no mencionado Sindicato.
