Resumo: The issue of cultural heritage management is approached from the point of view of the relationship that historic centers must have with the city and the territory. The purpose of this work is to show the problems of two case studies, the historic cities of Morelia and Pátzcuaro in the state of Michoacán in Mexico. Study is based on how their historic centers have been managed and to propose possible solutions that allow arriving at better strategies in the protection of their cultural, natural, material and immaterial values, under the vision of sustainable conservation in order to guarantee a better quality of life. The work is based on bibliographic review and direct observation. The theoretical support is based on cultural diversity and the inefficiency of Western reductionist criteria of separation between material, immaterial and natural heritage is recognized.
