Resumo: This article intends to analyze the dynamics of soy expansion in the state of Mato Grosso from the 1980s onwards and the impasses imposed to the agrarian reform policies in the region. In a context of enormous agro-export economic success e relative retraction of the debate about agrarian reform in the country, the article proposes to recover the current nature of the agrarian issue at the heart of “agribusiness”. Based on the analysis of data from official sources, we will highlight both the resilience and challenges of family farming in the state of Mato Grosso, in the midst of the expansion of business agriculture aimed at the foreign market

Based on the analysis of data from official sources, we will highlight both the resilience and challenges of family farming in the state of Mato Grosso, in the midst of the expansion of business agriculture aimed at the foreign market El propósito de este artículo será exponer la dinámica de expansión de la soja en el estado de Mato Grosso a partir de la década de 1980 y analizar los impasses que este proceso ha impuesto a las políticas de reforma agraria en la región. En un contexto de enorme éxito económico agroexportador y de relativa retracción del debate sobre la reforma agraria en el país, el artículo propone recuperar la naturaleza actual del tema agrario y de la lucha por la tierra em el seno del “agronegocio”. A partir del análisis de datos de fuentes oficiales, destacaremos tanto la resiliencia como los desafíos de la agricultura familiar en el estado de Mato Groso, en medio de la expansión de la agricultura empresarial dirigida al mercado externo. O objetivo deste artigo será expor a dinâmica da expansão da soja no estado do Mato Grosso a partir da década de 1980 e analisar os impasses que este processo impôs às políticas de reforma agrária na região. Em um contexto de enorme sucesso econômico agroexportador e de relativa retração do debate acerca da reforma agrária no país, o artigo propõe-se resgatar a atualidade da questão agrária e da luta pela terra no coração do “agronegócio”.
