This article approaches an extra-institutional public violence format present in Brazil, the lynching. It demonstrates how the State inaction and indolence can favor social conflicts, leading people to seek justice with their own hands. It refers to an open wound in the Brazilian society drifting from criminal typification, but still punishable when framed in analogous criminal types. The nature of the lyncher is also present in this research, specially given that the dehumanization provoked by the act of lynching evokes scientific curiosity and should also be analyzed.
