INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES IN THE CONTEMPORARY TIMES

Resumo: In this article we address the issue of indigenous languages today. The 1988 Federal Constitution instituted a new paradigm in relation to indigenous peoples and their languages. The situation of coloniality that still persists has not prevented different peoples from promoting actions that value the original languages. Ethnosyntax (ENFIELD, 2002) supports reflection on the importance of indigenous languages, which codify the values and rules that organize different societies. For indigenous peoples, they constitute a valuable index of ethnic identity and the essential means that condenses cosmology and epistemology, which allows non-indigenous researchers an inexhaustible source of anthropological, ecological, historical, linguistic knowledge, among others. This knowledge can even save humanity, which is currently facing a socio-environmental catastrophe.

La Constitución Federal de 1988 instituyó un nuevo paradigma en relación con los pueblos indígenas y sus lenguas. La situación de colonialidad que aún persiste no ha impedido que diferentes pueblos promuevan acciones que valoricen las lenguas originarias. La etnosintaxis (ENFIELD, 2002) sustenta la reflexión sobre la importancia de las lenguas indígenas, que codifican los valores y reglas que organizan las diferentes sociedades. Para los pueblos indígenas constituyen un valioso índice de identidad étnica y el medio esencial que condensa la cosmología y la epistemología, lo que permite a los investigadores no indígenas una fuente inagotable de conocimientos antropológicos, ecológicos, históricos, lingüísticos, entre otros. Este conocimiento puede incluso salvar a la humanidad, que actualmente se enfrenta a una catástrofe socioambiental.  Neste artigo abordamos a questão das línguas indígenas na atualidade. A Constituição Federal de 1988 instituiu um novo paradigma em relação aos povos indígenas e suas línguas. A situação de colonialidade que ainda perdura, não tem impedido que os diferentes povos promovam ações que valorizam as línguas originárias. A Etnossintaxe (ENFIELD, 2002) ampara a reflexão acerca da importância das línguas indígenas, que codificam os valores e as regras que organizam as diferentes sociedades. Para os povos indígenas, elas constituem um valioso índice de identidade étnica e o meio essencial que condensa a cosmologia e a epistemologia, o que permite aos pesquisadores não indígenas uma fonte inesgotável de saberes antropológicos, ecológicos, históricos, linguísticos, entre outros.
