Resumo: The concept of Anthropocene has potentialities that may be useful to archaeological research that aim to comprehend the impact of human actions on the ecology in specific regions and in a global scale. Nevertheless, the concept also congregates a series of critics that goes from human exceptionalism to the generalization of diversified and complex socio-ecological interactions. In this article, I approach the Anthropocene concept’s critics and potentials, highlighting its aspect of an emergent interdisciplinary field, and of metanarrative.

Sin embargo, el concepto también reúne una serie de críticas que van desde la excepcionalidad humana hasta la generalización de interacciones socioecológicas complejas y diversas. En este artículo, abordo tanto las críticas como las potencialidades del concepto de Antropoceno, enfatizando su aspecto como un campo interdisciplinario emergente y como una metanarrativa.O conceito de Antropoceno possui potencialidades que podem ser úteis para pesquisas arqueológicas que visam compreender o impacto das ações humanas sobre a ecologia tanto de regiões específicas quanto em escala global.
