Resumo: | The aim of this clinical trial, double-blind and randomized, was to compare two whitening treatments: home and professional to placebo evaluating shade, sensibility and periodontal status. Forty five patients were divided into three groups (n=15): Group 1 – 10% carbamide peroxide, Group 2 – placebo (carbopol), Group 3 – 35% hydrogen peroxide + Q-switch I dye + carbopol + Nd:YAG laser. The patients from groups 1 and 2 used the whitening agents in trays for three weeks. The group 3 received the Nd:YAG laser irradiation with the following protocol: 2. 0W, 100 mJ, 20 pps. The shade evaluation was realized by two examiners through a Vita Classic scale. The sensibility and periodontal status were accessed by scales made by researchers. For each group the initial and final shade was statistically analyzed by Wilcoxon Rank test (p<0. 05) and in the comparison among groups was applied the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. There was statistical significance to the initial and final shade for groups 1 and 3, being the shade’s level variation, in according to Vita’s scale, of 8. 14 and 7. 80, respectively. The groups 1 and 3 were no statistically different from each other but differ from group 2. There were no statistical differences between the initial and final sensibility for all groups. However, the groups 1 and 3 were statistically different from group 2 in the final sensibility presenting higher values. There were no statistical differences between the initial and final periodontal status for all groups and between groups. In conclusion, both bleaching techniques, 35% hydrogen peroxide with Nd:YAG laser or 10% carbamide peroxide, were efficient to shade alteration with teeth whitening promoting minimal collateral effects on periodontal tissues and sensibility. |

In conclusion, both bleaching techniques, 35% hydrogen peroxide with Nd:YAG laser or 10% carbamide peroxide, were efficient to shade alteration with teeth whitening promoting minimal collateral effects on periodontal tissues and sensibility.O objetivo deste ensaio clínico, duplo-cego e randomizado foi comparar dois tratamentos de clareamento: caseiro e de consultório com laser de Nd:YAG a um placebo; avaliando cor, sensibilidade e condições periodontais. Made available in DSpace on 2011-12-27T14:14:17Z (GMT).
